Boy killed with grandfather's handgun in Sandy (ABC 4 News)

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Police identified the boy who was killed by a gunshot in Sandy Tuesday night.

The boy was identified as 2-year-old Ethan Hearty, whose family is from Denver. Police say Hearty's family was visiting family in Utah when the incident happened.

Police said the case was an active investigation, and that they would not be disclosing specific details until the investigation is completed.

They expected the case to be resolved by Thursday morning.

Early reports suggest that the boy shot himself accidentally after getting a hold of a 9 mm handgun from the master bedroom of his grandparent's home.
